Musings from #oldguywritesbooks (a series)
If you continue to doubt that you can author that book burning within you, you might start to consider that the noise in your mind is just two opposing voices clamoring for your attention. As you have seen from some of the previous posts in this series, one voice is the calmest and tries to keep reassuring you that you can author a book. The other voice, typically the loudest and most cunning one, is the one that keeps playing the fear card by continuously reminding you of all the reasons you shouldn’t author one. It laughs at the idea that you should be fearless! It certainly doesn’t want to see you courageous enough to become an author.
If that is the situation you find yourself in (rest assured, you are not alone), take three or four minutes to absorb the encouragement that this song by The Afters offers:
I’m not so naive to suggest that by listening to one video such as this will turn you into the next Ernest Hemmingway. But I believe that if you begin to start building into yourself an upbeat and positive possibility that you can author that book, despite perceived obstacles, you will become increasingly encouraged to do so. You will find yourself wanting to take the risk you think is present.
Can I hear an amen?
