Joy

Give it. . . receive it

The Rubber Ducky

I don’t know anyone who has ever said they don’t like rubber duckys. It’s as if they have a hidden joy button that makes everyone smile.

Granted, it’s not typically a topic of adult conversations (nor probably kid’s either), but the thought of them is likely a warm, fuzzy feeling to most folks, activating their inner joy button.

Many, if not all of us, have fond memories of sitting in a bathtub filled with warm water, mom leaning over the edge of the tub, trying to get us clean while we attended to more important things.

Like playing with a rubber ducky. Or two. Or three.

Give it. . . Receive it

This past Sunday at church, the message was about joy. Not the artificial kind that fades when the music stops, but the kind that sticks even when life isn’t going your way. It’s as if finding your joy button becomes essential.

At the end of the service, they gave us all rubber ducks.

Yes. Rubber ducks.

The idea? Simple. During the week, look around. When you see someone who looks like they might need a little joy, hand them your duck. No big speech. Just one small gesture that says: “You matter. And today, you could use some joy.” Perhaps you’ll see it ignite their joy button.

That’s when this thought popped into my head—one of those crooked little truths that feels like something Yogi Berra might’ve said:

You can’t keep joy unless you give some away—but once you give it away, you end up keeping more than you gave.

Could this be a Yogi-ism?

Maybe not. But it oughta be.

Joy warms the heart

Jaden Hayes lost both of his parents at six years old. But he was determined to live life with joy. Here’s how he did it, turning grief into a joy-filled journey.

Got the Kleenex handy?

Your joy button

Joy buttons.

We all have them.

Jaden figured out how to tickle them in others by using rubber duckys.

And in the process, his was tickled, even under horrific circumstances.

Are you ready to have your joy button tickled?

Go ahead, take a risk.

Let the kid in you loose.

Go to Amazon and buy a bunch.

And then, give them away, one rubber ducky at a time, with the intention of sharing joy.
